Since 1999, BackPack Attack has collected more than 2.8 million school supplies for children in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) as well as other schools in Marion, Boone, Hancock and Hendricks counties.
Did you know?
- 83% of the families in the IPS school system can’t afford the basic school supplies that their children need.
- Students with inadequate supplies suffer an unnecessary struggle to keep up with peers.
- Many IPS teachers spend their own money to purchase these supplies for students.

Thanks for making BackPack Attack 2011
Sponsors, businesses and members of the community helped to collect enough supplies to serve 35,904 students throughout Marion County during the 2011BackPack Attack School Supply drive.
“Each year we strive to serve as many families as possible,” said Maggie McGaughey, Chair, BackPack Attack. “Thanks to so many generous people in our community we have been able to provide supplies to every Indianapolis Public School as well as 2500 students who came out to our public distribution events.”
We had 154 businesses and organizations helped collect school supplies this year. A special luncheon was held for participating organizations and individuals who helped out with the drive on August 31. A special thanks of support to Indiana Members Credit Union, Allison Transmission, Tony Stewart Foundation, Office Depot Foundation, MCL Restaurant & Bakery, and Arni’s.
Monetary donations for BackPack Attack are accepted throughout the year.
